Thorne's ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) is NSF Certified for Sport®. Most people are aware that vitamin C promotes healthy immune function. But vitamin C also has several additional mechanisms of action. For example, it's an essential nutrient for promoting wound healing and supporting injury repair. Vitamin C also plays a role in liver detoxification and helps protect against the toxic effects of heavy metals such as lead, aluminum, and cadmium. Thorne's Ascorbic Acid contains only crystalline vitamin C–with no added corn starch, magnesium stearate, or other lubricants and diluents–to ensure optimal absorption and efficacy.
The combined positive effects of vitamin C on collagen synthesis, antioxidant status, and immune function make it an important nutrient for surgery patients and for supporting wound healing. Vitamin C is necessary for the proper action of those enzymes involved in phase I liver detoxification. In addition, as an antioxidant, vitamin C helps quench the free-radical intermediates that are created during this first phase of the detoxification of harmful substances in the liver. Furthermore, vitamin C helps increase the level of the important antioxidant glutathione by increasing glutathione's rate of synthesis, which enhances the liver's phase II detoxification.
